It probably is no surprise that Food Network shows are one of my favorite indulgences. I watched Giada De Laurentiis preparing a Mother’s Day menu in the May 9 episode of "Giada at Home." All of the dishes looked and sounded good, but the dessert intrigued me. The Espresso and Chocolate Jellies immediately got me thinking about what jazzed up jellied desserts would appeal to me and my friends.

Jell-O desserts made by relatives and neighbors are a not-so fond memory from my childhood. The gelatin salads or dessert molds they brought to family gatherings did not leave me wanting seconds.  I never quite got the appeal of these wiggling bowls of red, orange, green or yellow gelatin dotted with suspended fruit (usually canned) or vegetables.
